Dr. James Thomas of Rochester Endodontics
A root canal is a procedure that many fear due to the pain they assume is involved. Dr. James Thomas and his team want to dispel that myth, through the highest level of care, a comforatble setting and the latest in diagnostic technology – all leading to a pain free experience.
Dr. James Thomas is a second generation dentist raised in Metro Detroit. He attended Michigan State University for both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in biology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During his time spent at MSU, he had the opportunity to work in the botany greenhouses, conduct veterinary and invertebrate research, and enjoyed his position as a teaching assistant for numerous science courses prior to entering dental school.
Dr. Thomas completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honors from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, and went on to join his father in private dental practice.
Here, he grew clinically, enjoyed many terrific patient relationships, earned a Fellowship Award in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and developed his passion for endodontics. He also had the privilege of serving the Michigan Dental Association (MDA) and AGD as a delegate, board member, speaker host, and member of continuing education committees.
With increased focus on endodontics, Dr. Thomas returned to the University of Detroit Mercy for an endodontic residency in 2017, earning a Master of Science degree and Certificate in endodontics. Dr. Thomas is an Alpha Sigma Nu National Honor Society inductee and Ellison Award Recipient. He contributed to peer reviewed, scientific literature in the Journal of Endodontics and is American Board of Endodontics board eligible. Dr. Thomas is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists, Michigan Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, and MDA.
Dr. Thomas spends his free time with his wife, two children, and dog. They enjoy hiking, snowboarding, cooking, traveling, and attending their children’s varied activities.
“I find gratification in providing my patients with friendly, compassionate, quality care. My goal is to spend time with every patient, diagnose conservatively, and deliver indicated endodontic therapy in a gentle, comfortable manner to save natural teeth and alleviate pain.”
5 stars across the board!!! I was referred from an emergency situation that was not helpful, and not only were they able to get me in right away, they were the only ones who gave me any relief! Dr. James is very kind, efficent, and personable. I would recommend him and his office to anyone who asks!

What is Endodontics?
As tooth pulp decays the pain can become extreme and there is primarily only one way to save the tooth, through a root canal.
Our specialty utilizes root canal treatment, and root canal surgeries to help get your teeth back to health. Our goal is making sure that our treatment is performed in a manner that’s as pain free as possible!
Specialty practices such as ours receive patients who have been “referred” from general dentists and other specialists for root canal treatment. Our patients are not only you but also our dental and medical colleagues who referred you to us.
